On Tuesday, 7 July 2026, QES STEAM Education Team successfully hosted its annual STEAM Fun Day in the School Hall. Designed specifically for our junior secondary (S1 and S2) students, this event aimed to foster interdisciplinary learning, promote scientific inquiry, and cultivate problem-solving skills through hands-on activities spanning STEAM.
The school hall was organized into eleven distinct experiential booths and workshops, categorized into three key learning domains:

Applied Technology & Digital Innovation
Students engaged with industry-standard simulations and emerging technologies to develop their spatial awareness and digital literacy:

  • Aeronautics & Flight Simulation: Students applied principles of aerodynamics to pilot virtual aircraft under simulated flight conditions.
  • Drones Control: Participants operated aerial drones, practicing precision control and navigation.
  • RoboMaster Robotics Tournament: An interactive arena where students applied computational thinking and tactical coordination to control robotic systems.
  • Minecraft Augmented Reality (AR) Challenge: A spatial problem-solving exercise blending digital block-building with physical environments.
  • Generative AI Fashion Design Display: An exhibition demonstrating the integration of artificial intelligence in contemporary design, showcasing the intersection of aesthetic expression and machine learning.

Scientific Inquiry & Experimental Biology
These booths provided students with opportunities to apply scientific methodologies and observe biological and chemical phenomena firsthand:

  • Biology: Strawberry DNA Extraction: A laboratory workshop where students successfully isolated genomic DNA from plant tissue, reinforcing concepts of cellular biology.
  • Anatomical Dissection (Pig Lung): A guided biology demonstration exploring the physiological structure and respiratory mechanics of the mammalian lung.
  • Chemical Synthesis & Redox Reactions: Students investigated reduction-oxidation principles through the "Blue Bottle" experiment and explored pH scaling using natural botanical indicators.

Engineering & Logical Reasoning
Focusing on tactile construction, physics, and mathematical logic, these stations challenged students to design, build, and analyze:

  • Kinetic Energy Generation Workshop: A practical engineering seminar where students constructed hand-cranked generator devices to study energy conversion.
  • Aerodynamics & Propulsion: Water Rocketry: Students designed, calibrated, and launched water-pressurized rockets to observe Newton¡¦s laws of motion in real time.
  • Mathematical Logic & Spatial Reasoning: A dedicated area for Rubik¡¦s Cube and Sudoku challenges, aimed at enhancing algorithmic thinking and quantitative analysis.

STEAM Fun Day providing a holistic and future-ready curriculum. By bridging theoretical classroom knowledge with practical, real-world applications, we aim to inspire the next generation of innovators and critical thinkers at QES.
