Gold Medal - Cheng Lai Yin
Creative Robot Design Award ¡V Cheng Lai Yin, Poon Yik Cheung

We are thrilled to share our students' outstanding results at the 2026 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI). Earning their place on the official 8-member Hong Kong delegation required exceptional perseverance. Guided by IOAI HK, they emerged from a rigorous selection process that began with over 1,200 participants, narrowed down to an 800-strong open round, and culminated in a competitive 25-student final in April 2026.

Representing Hong Kong on the global stage, Cheng Lai Yin (Carson) secured a Gold Medal in the individual event, ranking 9th among 440 top competitors worldwide. Demonstrating remarkable diligence, this is Carson's second consecutive Gold, making him the only Hong Kong student to achieve this over the past two years.

Collaboration is just as vital as individual skill. In the Galbot Embodied AI Team Experience, Carson and Poon Yik Cheung (Sun) successfully applied AI theories to robotic hardware, earning the "Creative Robot Design Award" for their teamwork and practical problem-solving.

What makes us equally proud is their ongoing contribution to the QES community. Demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and proactiveness, Carson and the Computer Society designed and led 10 on-campus AI workshops prior to the competition, taking the time to mentor 20 of his peers. This spirit of diligence and unity perfectly aligns with our school's focus on robust knowledge acquisition and the ethical, innovative use of IT.

Congratulations to Carson and Sun for their hard work. Thank you for representing Hong Kong and QES so wonderfully.
