Chinese Version

On February 25, Principal IU Kok-kin, Assistant Principal LAW Man-tak, Miss Cheng Wing-chit and Mr. Ho Kwong-cheong led thirteen students from our school to attend the showcase“心繫家國’’——舞影蹁躚慶新春聯校匯演, in which students from 16 Guangdong and Hong Kong secondary schools performed traditional dances of Chinese ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, and Chosun. The performance is one of the “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country” joint school national education activities, with an aim to exhibit the artistry of Chinese dance and deepen students’ understanding of Chinese traditional culture through diverse learning experiences.??

Our sister school, Shenzhen Second Foreign Languages School, had also participated in the showcase, with Miss She Mengling, Mr. Yi Nanxin, and Miss Li Xinting leading the school’s dance team to perform the Han Ethnic Dance piece: “Awakening Lion”. The Guangdong lion dance, commonly called “Awakening Lion”, is a significant style of Chinese traditional lion dance. It integrates martial arts, dance, and music, symbolizing courage and resilience while carrying the meaning of auspicious and luck. Set against the backdrop of Opium War, the performance vividly portrayed the defiance of Guangdong’s people during turbulent times, conveying their unwavering commitment to national integrity.

Student attendees remarked that appreciating ethnic dances had deepened their understanding of Chinese traditional culture.
