Student: Cheung Wai Lam (S.6D)

This yearˇ¦s IMO was held from July 9 to 16 in Hong Kong, with 602 contestants from 109 countries/regions taking part in the competition. The 6 secondary students who represented Hong Kong obtained outstanding results with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and a bronze medal. The Hong Kong Team was ranked 9th this year as compared to 28th in the previous year which was a tremendous improvement. One of the silver medalists and the only Secondary 6 student in the Hong Kong Team was Cheung Wai Lam from Class 6D in our school. Although Wai Lam had to cope with the DSE examination, with the school motto ˇ§Prepare yourself that you may serveˇ¨ deeply-rooted in his mind, he decided to accept the challenge in representing Hong Kong to take part in the competition. Despite of the time-engaging training for the IMO over the past 9 months, Wai Lam obtained 5** in both Mathematics Compulsory Part and Extended Part (Module 2). He even scored 30 marks in his best five subjects. Wai Lam believed that determination and perseverance is the key to success. Wai Lam will pursue a BBA degree course in Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis/Quantitative Finance at CUHK.
